STOP TB PARTNERSHIP CAMEROON

Stop TB Cameroon has set itself the objective to increase the level of knowledge of key stakeholders at country level on the overall budgetary needs to end TB at country level.  As a reminder, Cameroon need 29,6 million US to reach UNHLM 2022 targets and the funding gap still urge. For example, according to Stop TB analysis, in 2020, the funding gap was evaluated at 10,5 million $ with domestic contribution of 1,8 $ and Global Fund grants around 4,5$.

 

During the month of January 2024, a series of advocacy meetings were conducted with the objectives of create awareness of funding gap and mobilizing key stakeholders. For more effective advocacy, TB survivors grouped within TBpeople Cameroon provided leadership for tis activities.

A delegation made up of TB survivors and an expert from Stop TB Cameroon respectively met (i) the Ministry of Health (Directorate for the fight against the disease- photos 1&2), (ii) the WHO TB focal point – photos 3, (iii) the national TB control program – 4photos, and (iv) an appearance on national television – 5 photos. These advocacy meetings served to raise the level of knowledge of key stakeholders on the overall budgetary needs to end TB at country level. At the end of its various meetings; stakeholders made a commitment to contribute, each at their own level, to be more attentive to the mobilization of national resources to increase funds intended for the fight against tuberculosis, but also to better integrate survivors in all components of the TB response in Cameroon.

The campaign will be intensified over the coming months with the launch of the competition for the best media production on the theme “the problem of financing tuberculosis in Cameroon”. This competition will allow men and women of the media to raise their voices on the crisis of domestic financing of the fight against tuberculosis in Cameroon. The winners will be celebrated during World Tuberculosis Day on March 24, 2024.
